Dr. José María Naharro-Calderón teaches Spanish contemporary literature, culture, exiles studies and film and directs Summer Seminars on Diasporas and Frontiers at Llanes, Spain with an emphasis on film. His research covers both contemporary Spain and Latin America, specially exile studies and film. Among other contributions to film, he has pioneered studies on En el balcón vacío (1963), the mythical film by Diego García Ascot and María Luisa Elío on the 1939 Spanish exile.
